John E. Roehl, 63, passed away on April 22, 2013. John loved to work and for most of his life had three jobs; farming the Roehl homestead in Haven, bartending at his family’s restaurant, Klemme’s Wagon Wheel, playing tenor saxophone and clarinet in orchestras, and the Howard Grove Pep Band, the “Repeats.” John played as hard as he worked and will be remembered for his sense of humor.
John was an early member of the Polka Kings, with his good friend Arwin Herzog, which later became the Arwin Herzog Orchestra. In 1988, John took over the Arwin Herzog Orchestra and renamed it “John Roehl Orchestra." Through the years John has played music with Arwin Herzog, Carl Laack, David Dedering, Wyman Drak, John Perronne and Rich Tengowski. In 1998, John was named the “Orchestra Leader of the Year” by the Wisconsin Orchestra Leaders Association and in 2004 the band was named WHBL’s “Polka Idol.”
The family would like to thank Carl laack and the band members for continuing the band.
