Lester Bondowski has been playing the concertina since the age of 17, a total of 64 years. In Milwaukee, fans of Lester’s father simplified their last name to “Bonde.” Therefore, the stage name, Les Bonde. Lester is known for his two compositions, "Japaneese Twist" and "Ah Lovely Meadows." Lester also inaugurated his version of English lyrics to the “Strolling Girl Waltz.”
Lester plays a wide variety of music including Polkas, Waltzes, Fox Trots, Rhumbas, Tangos, Schottisches, Obereks, Jitterbugs, Old Country and Old Rock.
Lester was inducted into the World Congress Concertina Hall of Fame in 1984 and was named the Wisconsin Orchestra Leaders Association Bandleader of the Year for 2011.
